Additional commission funds were provided by The James Irvine Foundation, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and the LEF Foundation.

Arrangements for tracks 2–6 commissioned for the Kronos Quartet and the Alim Qasimov Ensemble by the Aga Khan Music Initiative, a program of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, and the Columbia Foundation.
Tracks 2–6 recorded September 2008 at Livingston Studios (London, England).
DVD contains series introduction, "Rainbow" a 25-minute documentary film, an interactive instrument glossary and a map of Central Asia.
